 Course Outline

 Class Description: The Course will follow the Ohio Instructional Curriculum and Objectives.

Physical Science: The course will compromise concepts from chemistry and physics. In this class, one must put forth time and effort because these concepts must be applied not only memorized.   

 Chemistry: The course will emphasize general concepts of chemistry; such as, scientific measurement, periodic table and chemical reactions etc. 

Attendance and Tardiness: Refer to school handbook  

Grading Scale Refer to school handbook.

 Make-up: It is the student’s responsibility to get missed work. Refer to the agenda book.

Homework: Student’s will have regular reading assignments mostly from the text. Problems, questions, projects and reports will require out of schoolwork.

 Parents are expected to have an active involvement with student homework habits.

 Homework - mainly reading assignments and reviewing. If the students do not do this, they will struggle.

 Grading 70% test and 30% everything else.

 Dishonesty Refer to school handbook.

 Preparation: Students need to bring book, pencil, paper, calculator, goggles and agenda-book  to class. If the student does not ---- they will face repercussions - sentences and or d-hall.  If the student does not do homework they will receive a zero. All work must be shown on problems if not, a zero will apply even if answers are correct.    

 Restroom Students will be allowed to go only when necessary. Excessive abuse will result in time that will have to be made up.

 Lab If lab rules are not followed, you will receive a zero for that lab. If a student endangers anyone in the class through horseplay, the student will not be allowed to do any labs for the rest of the year. 

 Classroom rules

1.       Act like young adults. If you can not then you will be asked to go to the office and dealt with accordingly 

2.       When the tardy bell rings there will be no talking. If you are not in your seat you will be marked tardy.

3.       No gum, food, candy, food or drink at any time, unless medical prescribed

4.       Immediately take your seat upon entering the room

5.       Do not use safety equipment at any time, unless necessary

6.       Do not get into cabinets

7.       Do not go behind the teacher’s desk or use the computer

8.       Computers may be used with permission

9.       Do not be late for class

10.    Follow all procedures as directed for all labs

11.    Always wear safety goggles during experiments

12.    No cursing of any kind

13.    Do not ask to leave the room except to go to the restroom

14.    Cheating refer to handbook

15.    If you break a rule there will be a punishment. If you want to discuss the situation we can but not during class time. 

16.    Threats or rumors of threats of any kind will be thought of and acted upon with serious consequences. No threat will thought of as a joke.

17.    Do not play with gas, air or water valves

18.    Do not joke about blowing things up, this will be taken serious

19.    If these rules do not apply then others will be implemented at that time

20.    A safety test will be given, if you do not pass you will not do labs until you do pass

21.    During labs no one is to sit on the stools

22.    Clean your lab area when finished with your experiment

23.    Always be prepared for lab or class

24.    Never perform your own experiments in the classroom

25.    Never mix chemicals unless it is part of the experiment
