Family Health & Wellness

The Fairland Local School District has partnered with the Cook Center for Human Connection and their Mental Health Resource Center, ParentGuidance.org.

ParentGuidance.org is a website that was developed to help parents, guardians, and caregivers with parenting advice from the top clinicians and experts who offer guidance around issues related to the most common challenges parents face today: anxiety, social media use, school avoidance, bullying, and more.

It offers on-demand, anonymous courses and resources from experts who can help parents address common concerns, improve family relationships, and support your overall child's emotional well-being. The content is created by licensed therapists and experienced teachers! ParentGuidance.org wants to give parents and caregivers the tools they need to create a loving and supportive home for their children. Find the tools that you need to support your family, in English or Spanish, completely free.

Fairland Local School District Profile

Fairland Local School District Profile

FLSD is located along the Ohio River in Lawrence County, Ohio directly across from Huntington,West Virginia. Fairland’s vision is to foster a positive community built on collaborative learning, high achievement, and a commitment to excellence. Our school is characterized as being a district of high academic standards. Fairland has the latest in technological equipment available for student and teacher use. Typically, nearly two-thirds of our graduates pursue a post secondary education. In addition to a sound curriculum, we also have strong gifted and intervention programs.

Each of our four buildings has at least a full time counselor.  All of our faculty and  staff has been trained in Trauma Informed Care and we partner with OVP Health to offer additional counseling services during the school day.  Beginning next fall we will be opening a school based health center.

We offer a well-rounded academic program including college preparatory/honors, and general curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all students. In addition, we offer our students the opportunity to earn college credits through Advanced Placement courses and the College Credit Plus Program.

Statewide Performance

• The district earned an overall “B+” academic grade from student-centered ranking systems.

• 62–71% of students score proficient in math and reading according to state tests.

• Fairland’s overall performance ranks it in the top 30% of Ohio districts based on test scores.

• Graduation rate ~95%, well above the Ohio average.

• Fairland’s elementary schools often perform above state averages, especially in ELA and math. Our focus in the early grades is reading comprehension and mathematics.  We have intervention and enrichment programs in place to ensure student success.

• Middle school performance is consistently strong and sits in the top 25% in Ohio.

College Credit Plus Dual Enrollment

The state sponsored dual enrollment option is available to all students who meet the

requirements of respective post secondary institutions in Ohio. Students have the option to

take courses online or in person. The dual enrollment courses offered in our building (with

our CCP credentialed teachers partnering with Rio Grande University.) We also partner with Marshall University as part of our CCP program.

Fairland High School has added STEM-Project Lead The Way (PLTW) educational courses to our curriculum. The STEM courses provide hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students in grades 9th through 12th grade. PLTW equips students with the skills they need to succeed in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
