October Events

Fairland East Elementary School

The coin harvest is happening this week October 15th-19th.  Bring your spare change and each classroom will compete with the others in their grade to see who can bring in the most change.  The PTO will weigh each classroom’s bucket at the end of the week to determine the winners! Money can be turned in until the tardy bell on Friday, 10/19.  All money raised during the coin harvest will benefit families in our community by assisting with Thanksgiving dinner!

Red Ribbon Week is also coming up the week of October 22nd-26th.  Red Ribbon Week is a national initiative that occurs every year in October.  In 1985, Federal drug enforcement agent Enrique Camarena was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico.  In response to his death, angered parents across the country began wearing red ribbons to symbolize their commitment toward a creation of a drug free America.  Congress officially proclaimed the first National Red Ribbon Week in October 1988.  The Red Ribbon has now become a symbol for the drug free movement.

Fairland East participates in this event every year with some fun activities for students and staff.  We have a theme each day and students dress according to the theme.  We have students read messages every morning about the importance of a drug- free lifestyle and do lessons to educate and encourage a drug free lifestyle.  We also have prize drawings for students and teachers and we end the week with our annual Harvest Party!

Below are our themes for the 2018 Red Ribbon Week, we can’t wait to see how creative you can be!
